White Mountain Legislators
White Mountain Apache Tribal Chairwoman Gwendena Lee-Gatewood (second from left) met with the three Democrats who will represent the White Mountains in the Arizona Legislature during 2019 and 2020. Arlando Teller (left) is deputy director of the Navajo Transportation Department and is running for the Arizona House of Representatives. State Sen. Jamescita Peshlakai, (second from right) a Gulf War veteran from Cameron, is running for re-election. Myron Tsosie, (right) a member of the Chinle School Board who has been involved in education at public schools through the college level, is running along with Teller for the two seats in the House of Representatives. On July 11, they met with the Tribal Council to discuss areas ranging from education to highways and rural airports. They stressed the need to vote No on Proposition 305, which would take money from hard-pressed rural schools and give it to exclusive schools for the wealthy in the Valley.
