Democrats Raise $1,077 for McNary Library
LAKESIDE White Mountain Democrats sponsored a community celebration of frybread at the Larson Library in Lakeside, raising more than $1,000 to help re-open the McNary Library.

The festivities, which included frybread cooks, showing the movie More Than Frybread and a talk by actor Isaiah Lee, raised $1,077. The event was held on May 11.

The McNary Library has been closed for several years, since the roof on the old Post Office building in McNary, which housed the library, failed and caused damage to books. A grant has been secured to pay for a pre-fabricated building that will house the new library. The frybread celebration was planned to pay for additional costs.

County Supervisor Dawnafe Whitesinger has been working with the Navajo County Library District on the project.

Lee, from Pinetop, played the role of a very serious frybread judge in the hilarious theatrical motion picture based on a fictional cooking contest among representatives of various Arizona tribes.

Cooks at the real frybread event at Larson Library were Chelsie Clawson, Larry Clawson, Becky Henry and Ken Henry.
