Dems to Host Major Cinco de Mayo Event for NE Arizona
People from throughout Northeast Arizona will converge in Holbrook on Saturday, May 3, for free live music and dancing at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in a day-long “Culture Fest and Rally for Respect” to mark Cinco de Mayo.
The event will start at 10 a.m. and feature the Mexican Ballet Folklorico Dance Troupe from Winslow at 10:15.
Juan Guttierrez, a singer and guitar player known throughout the White Mountains for his beautiful voice, will perform traditional Hispanic music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fusion, a teen-age band from Holbrook High School, will take the stage from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The Holbrook Mexican Dance Troupe will wow the crowd beginning at 2 p.m.
The featured band, the popular “Los Dirty White Boys” from Holbrook, will perform from 3 to 7 p.m., offering a selection of golden oldies rock and classic country.
A selection of Mexican dance music will fill out the evening hours, entertaining the crowd until 10 p.m.
Children’s events, such as piñata breaking and face-painting, will also be available.
The event is being promoted in Winslow, St. Johns, Concho, Springerville/Eagar, Pinetop-Lakeside, Show Low, Snowflake and Taylor, as well as Holbrook, to bring the members of Hispanic community of Northeast Arizona together. Everyone is welcome.
The Catholic Church formerly held a popular celebration of Cinco de Mayo in Holbrook, but did not plan to hold the event this year.
The fairgrounds event is being sponsored by the Navajo County Democratic Committee, along with the Little Colorado River Democrats. Voter registration will be available throughout the day. Candidates will address the crowd briefly when the bands are on break.
Reasonably priced hamburgers, hotdogs and sodas will be available at a booth at the event in Martinez Hall. For more information, email Eric Kramer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
