Geography: Two distinct areas make up the county, divided by the Mogollon Rim. The northern portion is dry and desert-like. The southern section is more mountainous with forests of pinon juniper and ponderosa pine.
Three Indian reservations are included in the county. They are: Navajo, Hopi and Apache.
Economy: The types of industries forming the major portion of the area economy are: Coal Mining, Manufacturing, Ranching, Timber, and Tourism.
